At Silverarm we provide both Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM).

SEO – Search Engine Optimisation

Net bots called ‘spiders’ index the web on a regular basis. This means that they visit millions and millions of pages on the web. While they do this they gather all sorts of information about the pages. It is the task then of the web site designer to maximise the traffic to the site from search engines by designing a site which fulfills the requirements of these spiders.

In simple terms this is done by highlighting the typical keywords that a possible client will enter in a search engine when looking for your services. At Silverarm we pride ourselves in our ability to design websites which are highly engine optimised and remain as such once designed.

There are other very important factors which effect SEO such as the popularity of your website. The promotion of a website on other sites which have an interest in the content of your site is also critical. At Silverarm we will walk you through this process.

SEM – Search Engine Marketing “Pay for Performance”

Pay-for-Performance (PFP) or Pay-per-click (PPC) results show separately from the normal search engine results. Normally they are under a heading such as ‘Sponsored Links’. In Google they are the results that show at the top of and down the right hand side of the normal search results.

In Pay for Performance, you decide to pay a set price for each click through from the provider’s index to your site. This is your click through cost. Let’s take the example of choosing to pay for the search term ‘Holiday Sun’. In this instance – depending on how much you are prepared to pay – a certain number of visitors to the Search Engine Index who search for ‘Holiday Sun’ will be shown your ad. At this point you have still not been charged. However, for every person who clicks on the ad you are charged the price that you agreed (your click through cost) per click.

Typically this cost will be in the region of 10 to 50 cents although, in the case of more popular terms, it can be higher. You can also set a maximum budget, per day, for any particular ad. This protects you from any odd fluctuations in the click through activity on your add.

Silverarm will talk you through the pros and cons of this form of advertising and help you decide if it is a good investment for your website or not.

Remember there is little use having a site on which you want to sell or advertise your wares unless people know it exists!
